TPU from Google

Postby develone » Fri Mar 01, 2019 1:27 pm

Hello All,
Google just announced the coral & USB TPU in MagPi#79
https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/
more information found at
http://coral.withgoogle.com
This should be great for Ultibo to move forward with AI.

Thanks for link, I spotted that yesterday in the Pi Mag and did not follow though.
Going to need ARMv8 to run the software?
500ma? no light weight ASIC then.

That's now three AI ML hardware vision system I know of within reach of hobbyists.
I suspect these big companies are putting these out there to train the next gen coders and to spot any good current gen.
I prefer the HiMax Lattice version, lower power but more open as it is FPGA based.
The Intel Movidius and Google Edge TPU are less open?

Of course we can still use Pi and Picamera and do software based CV or even use a bit of OpenCL on the QPU's now.
So much to learn.
A good clue is the image sizes they use, around 300x300, basically the old QVGA 320x240?
I suspect we will see all this built into image sensors.
Already smart sensors are available at 90x90 pixels, all based on optical mouse sensors tech?

Hello All,
https://github.com/SymbioticEDA/MARLANN this is 8 x 8 using a FPGA.
MARLANN stands for Multiply-Accumulate and Rectified-Linear Accelerator for Neural Networks
