Feature survey

Postby Ultibo » Mon Jun 05, 2017 11:14 am

There's been a lot of discussion lately about support for some of the major items still missing from Ultibo, while everyone has their own point of view about what is most important not everything can be done at once.

Based on a suggestion we've decided to run a poll for up to 3 months to seek feedback on what you would like to see most. Remember that this is not a survey for what features will be included, everything on this list is planned to be supported, it's simply about you telling us which one you think is most important in order to guide the roadmap for future development.

You only get one vote so think carefully about your choice, we think this list covers the really big ticket items but if you have something else that is bigger feel free to let us know.

Happy voting!

My highest priority feature for Ultibo would be "Debug Ultibo running in QEMU from Lazarus"
Once I left this comment, should I vote: "None of the above (Please leave a comment below)" ?
or should I wait for this feature to appear in the list of the survey and be able to vote for my priority feature ?

This is hard to decide..

WiFi and BT will give easy networking/connectivity but there are more important things on this list
USB device mode is for Pi0 only

GPU/OpenGL will open all graphics possibilities (and I am writing GUI now :) )... but I think my vote will go to:

64-bit ARM support

Hello, I would say 64 ARM. I am not sure the way that you're working but some of these task should be done in parallel.

It was a hard decision, but what ever comes next I will find a use for.
As everything on the list is useful.

Not sure which one is going to be the easiest as they are seriously complex now (well for me)
Pick the easiest and hope someone else does the hard ones for you
But don't stress too much, with what's coming down the pipelines now and just using what we already have will keep me busy for along time.

Thanks Jyv, It was extremely remiss of us to leave debugging off this list, especially when you have been such a strong advocate for it.

We won't modify the list now that voting has begun but your post has reminded us to add Debugging to the planned features on the Current Status page so it will not be overlooked again.

We'll count your comment as a vote in favor of debugging support.

Thanks again.

+1 for Video Core.

It has so much potential (and is probably the trickiest).

+1 for Video Core....It has so much potential (and is probably the trickiest).

If that does get going, expect a flood of users :D
Recruiting more users means more people playing/fixing/expanding Ultibo.

I want WiFi/BT for my bots but I need camera too, I can wait.
Got more serious coding skills to learn first.

Debugging pushes Ultibo into a serious $$$$ development tool territory.
Add JTAG and GDB and mainstream pro coders will pay attention.
Hmm will need revision control then too.

All these are obvious and will happen anyway.
Anyone who has been using Ultibo for a while can see where it is going.

I would go for "USB Device mode (On-The-Go)"...

Another feature could be SSL and/or SSH so we could communicate to cloud services.

This would probably be my no. 2 choice, but since I only get one I will stick with VideoCore.

Paul
